A captivating combination of genres – essentially proggy death metal. A seamless 60 minutes full of musical ideas. A little noodly at times, but I enjoy the clean guitar work. Lyrically, it sits somewhere between nihilism and humanism – anti-religion, but more broadly institutional than the typical metal fare. There's a relish to the violence against women imagery in "Slave" which I don't enjoy, but on the whole this album stands up to scrutiny from most directions. Certainly not run of the mill

Blackbraid quickly followed up their 2022 debut in 2023 with more native folk infused furious black metal. This is by no means a sophomore slump as it is equally excellent, methodical, melodical, and approachable as the first record. 9/10

The Army of Gaia stormed into Switzerland a few weeks back (on tour with Vader and Vomitory) and the Greek Gods Aetherian completely overwhelmed me with joy! Damn this is good! Melodic DM masterpiece indeed! I really love all songs but am really obsessed with the first four. Can't wait to see them live on stage again soon! Fans of Rotting Christ would like these Greek guys too :)
